Byler is a pediatric neurologist at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Her primary areas of scholarly interest include Tourette syndrome and neurogaming as a teaching tool.

“Dr. Byler is a phenomenal educator,” wrote a current student on the nomination. “I truly wish that every attending (physician) shared her characteristics and teaching style. She efficiently educates students, residents and families alike with bedside teaching during rounds. She incorporates students into the team and encourages improvement of physical exam skills ― providing tips along the way. She not only educated the team about child neurology topics but incorporated topics from ethics, leadership and professionalism into the discussions.”

Byler received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2018 and 2011, was twice recognized as the Teacher of the Year in the College of Medicine’s Neurology Clerkship, was named to the Best Doctors in America list and received the Thomas W. Ballantine Award as Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the Department of Pediatrics.
