UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State’s IM Building was recognized as one of the 2018 Facilities of Merit by Athletic Business — an international multimedia publication covering the athletics, recreation and wellness industries. The IM Building was noted as one of the country’s top recreational facilities, chosen for its dynamic design and energizing atmosphere.

Campus Recreation, a unit of Penn State Student Affairs, oversaw the renovation of the IM Building, creating a neighborhood of recreation where students can comfortably explore various areas of activity while challenging themselves physically and connecting socially with one another.

“This award reflects the work of so many over multiple generations,” said Laura Hall, senior director of Campus Recreation. “Administrators and student leaders have worked to dedicate funds and develop this contemporary center from its inception, and it’s important to recognize the hard work, vision and determination of everyone who was involved over the past eight years.”

Campus Recreation staff was invited to attend Athletics Business' annual Athletic Business Show and receive the award on the University’s behalf.

The building currently incorporates active health and wellness programs provided by the University.

“There was a point during the development of Phase Three where we made adjustments to accommodate emerging students’ needs,” said Linda Buonanno, senior associate director of Campus Recreation for facilities and operations. “We worked with Moody Nolan, Penn State’s Office of Physical Plant, and Mortenson Construction to add additional workout, lounge and office spaces to serve students and leave a lasting impact on our Penn State community.”
