College of Health and Human Development names student marshal

Laura Santangelo will serve as college marshal for Dec. 15 commencement

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Laura Santangelo, daughter of John and Janice Santangelo, of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, will serve as the college marshal for the College of Health and Human Development at the Dec. 15 Penn State commencement ceremony.

Santangelo will graduate with a bachelor of science degree in health policy and administration, with minors in business and the liberal arts; information sciences and technology in health policy and administration; and labor and employment relations. She will be escorted by faculty marshal Diane Spokus, senior instructor and associate director of undergraduate professional development of health policy and administration.

Santangelo earned numerous recognitions at Penn State, including the President’s Freshman Award, the Evan Pugh Senior Scholar Award, the President Sparks Award, and the President’s Freshman Award. She was a member of the College of Health and Human Development Honor Society and made Dean’s List. 

While at Penn State, Santangelo was a member of the College of Health and Human Development Women’s Leadership Initiative, the College of Health and Human Development Student Advisory Board, and the Health and Human Development Student Council. She also was public relations chair of the Penn State chapter of the American College of Health Care Administrators, marketing chair of the Department of Health Policy and Administration Club, vice president of the Health and Human Development Student Ambassadors, and a Health Policy and Administration peer mentor. Additionally, Santangelo served as an on-site coordinator with the student Red Cross club, and as a teaching assistant for the course Effective Collaborative Communication in the Department of Communication Arts and Sciences. 

Santangelo is a 2015 graduate of Garnet Valley High School in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania.

Following graduation, Santangelo plans to pursue a career in senior living and aging services.
