Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence hosts visiting scholar from UK

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In November, the Center of Geriatric Excellence (CGNE) at Penn State hosted its first student visiting scholar, Angela Richardson, a registered nurse and doctoral student from the University of Bradford in the United Kingdom.

Richardson presented her research, “Nurse Preparedness for Dementia Care for Hospital to Care Home Transitions,” as part of the Collaborative Seminar Series co-sponsored by the CGNE and Center for Nursing Research. More than 50 participants attended the seminar in person or via videoconferencing.

Richardson also visited several care facilities and the Abramson Center for Jewish Life, a continuing-care retirement community near Philadelphia, where she presented a luncheon talk on “Dementia Care in the United Kingdom” to administrators, nurses and other professionals. The final highlight of her visit was the Gerontological Society of America’s 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting in Boston, where she co-presented “U.K. Nurses’ Views on Their Role in Hospital to Care Home Transitions for People Living with Dementia.”
