Penn State Lehigh Valley athletic update

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. — An update on the latest activities of the Penn State Lehigh Valley men's and women's basketball teams:

Men's basketball downs LCCC, 79-65

The men's basketball team opened their season in winning fashion, beating host Lehigh Carbon Community College 79-65, Nov. 12 in Schnecksville. Lehigh Valley held a 34-33 halftime lead and exploded in the second half to outscore LCCC 45-32.  Senior Jeremiah Jenkins led the way with a game-high 27 points. Senior James Middleton contributed 14 points and first-year studebt Brandon Purrone chipped in with 12 points.

Men's basketball falls at Marywood University, 91-65

The men's basketball team fell to host Marywood University, 91-65, in a non-conference match-up Nov. 14 in Scranton. Senior Jeremiah Jenkins led the Nittany Lions with 17 points. First-year student Brandon Purrone chipped in with 14 points and senior James Middleton added 11 points.

Women's basketball runs past Montgomery Community College, 83-27 

The women's basketball team dominated host Montgomery County Community College, 83-27, Nov. 10 in their season opener. Lehigh Valley had five players in double figures led by sophomore Rebecca Fuehrer with 17 points including 4 for 10 from 3-point land. First-year student Ally Quinn also shot lights out from beyond the arc, shooting 4 for 12 to contribute 16 points. First-year student Kion Andrews had her first college career double double with 15 points, 12 rebounds and a game high 9 steals. Junior Ebony Sanders dominated the paint with a double-double 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sophomore Anaya White contributed a double double as well with 11 points and 10 rebounds.  

Women's basketball falls to Moravian, 71-55

The women's basketball team held Moravian to 7 points in the second quarter to head to the locker room at halftime down six points, 32-26 on Nov. 14. Lehigh Valley cut the deficit to 3 points with 6:19 remaining in the third, but Moravian used 8-0 run late in the third to have the edge 51-37 going into the fourth quarter and the Greyhounds never looked back taking the 71-55 win. Lehigh Valley drops to 1-1 overall. 

Junior Ebony Sanders was a beast in the paint, leading the way with a team high 16 points and 16 rebounds. First-year student Sarah McGee chipped in with 14 points. 

Women's basketball edged by Stevens Institute of Technology, 57-50

The women’s basketball team outscored Stevens Institute of Technology 20-10 in the fourth quarter but it was not enough as Stevens won, 57-50, in day one on Nov. 17 of the Morgan Stanley Tip-Off Tourney hosted by DeSales University. First-year student Kion Andrews had a game high 20 points and 10 rebounds for her second double double in the last three games for the Lions. Junior Ebony Sanders had her third double double of the year with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Women's basketball splits at Morgan Stanley Tourney by downing Cedar Crest, 102-51.

Kion Andrews named to the All-Tournament Team 

The women's basketball team went 1-1 in the Morgan Stanley Tip-Off Tourney at DeSales University by blowing past Cedar Crest College, 102-51, in the Consolation game on Nov. 18. Four Lehigh Valley players scored in double figures led by junior Ebony Sander, who dominated the paint scoring a game-high 27 points and 9 rebounds in just 25 minutes. First-year student Kion Andrews had 23 points and 6 assists and was named to the All-Tournament Team. First-year student Sarah McGee added 11 points and freshman Jah'nel Oliver added 10 points. Every Nittany Lion got in the scoring column. Host DeSales University won the tournament by downing Stevens Institute of Technology 84-56 in the Championship game.
