UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — From Nov. 11-15, Penn State’s Global Programs office and University-wide partners host a variety of events to celebrate International Education Week. This initiative aims to acknowledge the benefits of global perspective gained from learning experiences.

During International Education Week, various colleges, embassies and community organizations across the globe celebrate the benefits of international education and the opportunities it provides.

To kick-off International Education Week, Global Programs hosted a launch party on the Monumental Staircase in the HUB-Robeson Center.

The launch party included performers from six different student organizations: K-ON, the African Student Association, Caliente Dance Company, Rince Na Leon Irish Dancing, the Society for Indian Music and Arts, and KPMD. There was also food from different areas of the world available for all attendees.

“IEW is a great opportunity to highlight the diverse international populations and opportunities Penn State affords. The Launch Party on Sunday opens the week with colorful and festive cultural performances — singing, dancing, and music,” said Jim Sauls, Student Engagement Coordinator with Global Programs. “Attending such an event is a great way to show support for our students and to witness some of their outstanding talents that make Penn State a wonderfully well-rounded university. The activities organized by numerous campus departments and offices that same week provide students with ample chances to learn about international opportunities on and off campus,” added Sauls.

Penn State hosts students from more than 140 different countries and has thousands of domestic students participating in study abroad all over the world. Penn State is nationally ranked for students studying abroad and number one in Pennsylvania with international students.

The winners of the International Student Photo Contest were announced at the Launch party as well.

  • Cultural Community: Leonardo Girlando
  • Penn State Life: Jimeng Jiang
  • Discovering Scenes: Moosa Al Habsi
  • Wildcard: Flavia Kung’u
