Penn State Lehigh Valley (PSU-LV) is raising funds to increase the number of quiet study spaces at the campus on Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by social media and collaboration. It is celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving and kicks off the charitable holiday season. This year Giving Tuesday is on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018. The fundraising window opens at 18:55 (6:55 p.m.) on Monday, Nov. 26, representing when Penn State was founded in 1855, and ends at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27.

Donations made during this timeframe through the PSU-LV Giving Tuesday website will support the creation of much needed quiet study spaces to help ensure that every student has the best possible chance to be successful as they pursue their academic goals.

“As a commuter campus, many of our students use every minute of their time on campus to get their homework and group projects completed before leaving to go to work or attend to other responsibilities,” said Tina Q. Richardson, chancellor of Penn State Lehigh Valley. “With our growing student body, quiet study spaces become harder to find. Creating additional spaces for students to study and work on group projects is necessary to better serve our students’ needs.”

The Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society has pledged a challenge gift of $2,500. Once Penn State alumni and friends raise $2,500 for Penn State Lehigh Valley on Giving Tuesday, the Lehigh Valley Alumni Society will contribute $2,500 to increase the amount raised to $5,000.

“The Penn State Lehigh Valley Alumni Society’s challenge gift is intended to motivate others to donate and we thank the society for their generosity! Let’s show the Lehigh Valley that Penn Staters have heart and care about student success on Giving Tuesday,” said Diane McAloon, director of alumni relations at Penn State Lehigh Valley. “The University is again showing special appreciation for young alumni who give back by giving their donations an even greater impact. We need everyone’s help, especially our young alumni!”

Alumni who have earned a Penn State degree in the last 10 years are able to unlock a matched dollar for dollar contribution up to $100. The University will match funds up to $2,000.

With the continued partnership of alumni and friends, Penn State’s historic mission to serve the public good and create a better future for students, the commonwealth, and the world can be fulfilled.
