Call for applications: Outstanding Service Systems Innovation Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Are you a member of a business or academic unit that strives to implement effective industrial and systems engineering principles to real process problems facing your organization? If so, apply for the IISE Outstanding Service Systems Innovation Award and compete to have these achievements recognized.

Penn State Service Enterprise Engineering (SEE) 360 has partnered with the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE) to award organizations for developing innovative techniques that improve the performance of service industries.

IISE Chair for Honors and Awards Scott Sink notes that the service systems sector lags the manufacturing sector considerably in terms of process and operations excellence. He is pleased to collaborate with SEE 360 to shine a light on innovative organizations.

“This award will recognize some of the great improvement initiatives that are taking place in health care, education and other service systems,” said Sink. “SEE 360 is a tremendously valuable initiative and a catalyst for the service enterprise engineering field as a whole.”

There are two different award categories: academia and industry. The top three individuals/teams in each category will be awarded at the IISE Annual Conference & Expo in Orlando, Florida, May 18-21, 2019.

Recipients of this award will experience increased awareness of company efforts, third-party validation of innovative achievements and recognition as a market leader.

Chair of the SEE 360 Advisory Board Chuck Schneider is excited about this groundbreaking award that signifies an industry-wide acknowledgment of the importance of engineering techniques in the service sector.

“One of the main goals of SEE 360 is to promote more effective engineering of the 21st century economy, 80 percent of which is comprised of services,” said Schneider. “By awarding innovative organizations through our partnership with IISE, we are taking strides toward optimizing the processes of every labor sector in the U.S.”

Applicants must submit a PowerPoint presentation that explains their intent, approach, reasoning, successes and trials in achieving organization goals. Requirements for this presentation are detailed in the submission form. Applicants may also include support letters from the top management or relevant stakeholders that highlight the scope and impact of the innovation.

Applications will remain open for the inaugural Outstanding Innovation in Service Systems Engineering Award until Dec. 1.
