Global Entrepreneurship Week events planned in New Kensington

Events held at The Corner innovation hub and open to the public

NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. — Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) Penn State celebrates relationships between members of the University and the local entrepreneurial communities. Join Penn State New Kensington and its innovation hub, The Corner, for events including presentations, keynote addresses, workshops, and networking opportunities geared specifically to entrepreneurs, local startups, innovators, students and community members.

The following events are free and open to the public and will be held at The Corner at 701 Fifth Avenue in downtown New Kensington.

Afternoon Coffee Talk

Tuesday, Nov. 13 — 2:30-5 p.m.

Enjoy complimentary coffee and meet Rhonda Schuldt, Penn State New Kensington’s Innovation Coordinator at The Corner. Schuldt, who has weekly office hours at The Corner, is on the team to help small businesses, entrepreneurs and community members with help in connecting free resources and programs.

4 Bs: Becoming Better Business Builders

Tuesday, Nov. 13 — 6-7:30 p.m.

Use a wide variety of business skills to compete against other teams to accomplish a task. This event will help the participants improve many of their skills such as marketing, networking, problem solving and many more, to show the participants practical situations to use these skills. Then the event will wrap with a panel discussion on how those skills are crucial to become successful entrepreneurs or innovators. This event is planned and organized by Penn State New Kensington students.

A.M. Innovation Cafe with Pittsburgh Entrepreneur, Mark Sotomayor

Wednesday, Nov. 14 — 9 a.m.

Grab a cup of complimentary coffee and meet regional entrepreneur, Mark Sotomayor. Sotomayor, a junior at Grove City College, founded Té Amo, a locally sourced, organic tea company, which also uses some of its profits to plant trees in Haiti. As an entrepreneurship major and someone who loves creating products, he is fascinated by the industry and enterprise potential that the world contains. Learn about Sotomayor’s entrepreneurial journey and what he has learned; he will share lessons for everyone looking to start their own journey of innovation.

Innovation at Dairy Queen: The Secrets Behind the Blizzard

Wednesday, Nov. 14 — 6-7:30 p.m.

Learn how the ice cream company includes innovation in its operations and marketing efforts. This event is planned and organized by Penn State New Kensington students.

Lessons Learned: Business & Startup Advice from the Experts

Thursday, Nov. 15 — 1-2 p.m.

Join Pittsburgh’s Innovation Works for this interactive presentation and Q&A session, especially if you're thinking about starting or running your own business. They’ll be providing advice and tips so that you can be prepared and learn about resources at The Corner and within the region.
