Opportunities for a graduate with a master’s degree in public policy include positions at local, state and national government, non-profit organizations, think tanks, policy consulting organizations, foundations, international positions, as well as private sector companies that need policy specialists to create and analyze public policies.
Lilliard Richardson, director of the Penn State Public Policy program, said a degree in public policy is increasingly valuable. There is a high demand for people with the skills to help develop solutions to critical policy issues. The MPP program focuses on developing essential analytic skills and practical policy knowledge to help drive real-world results.
“When we’re looking at the major policy issues facing us in health care, climate change, the economy, and criminal justice, students can make a significant impact by helping to shape public policy,” said Richardson. “It’s exciting to think that our future graduates will be leaders in developing and guiding policy that focuses on practical, positive solutions to the complex issues that matter to them.”
