Penn State York to host the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments

November 01, 2018

Penn State York will host the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments (CCSG) meeting Nov. 2 and 3.  The two-day meeting brings together about 175 student leaders from the 19 commonwealth campuses across the state to meet and discuss a variety of topics from sustainability and student organizations to diversity and other topics pertaining to the University. This is the first time York has hosted the event which is open to any Penn State student. CCSG meets five times during the academic year.

“Holding the Council of Commonwealth Student Governments (CCSG) here at Penn State York is a tremendous honor as our campus has never held the council here,” said Charissa Strode, Student Government Association (SGA)  president at York campus. “More than 175 student leaders from other commonwealth campuses around the state are invited to discuss topics that are vital to the representation of Penn State students. I am so proud of and in love with my campus that I made sure I tried my hardest to have this council here. Now I can show off my love for this campus to student leaders all over the commonwealth. “

The two-day meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2 and continues through Saturday, Nov. 3 at 4:45 p.m. Visitors to the area will stay in local hotels and have an opportunity to tour the campus and learn more about York.

Students will also hear from other speakers including David Christiansen, chancellor of Penn State York; Andrea Dowhower, associate vice president for student affairs at University Park; Robert Farrell, director of academic affairs at Penn State York; John Mason, chancellor of Penn State Harrisburg; Shuchi Nalepa, service manager for Office 365;  Barry Pawloski, president of the Student Government Association at Penn State Wilkes-Barre; and Scott Simonds, director of student affairs at Penn State York.

CCSG was founded in 1960, and its mission is to advocate for the Penn State Commonwealth Campuses by providing effective opportunities for communication and growth while promoting unity and legislative change for Penn State students.
