In time for the holidays, this do-it-yourself gift-making workshop will be taught by Sylvia Rushing, resident instructor of floral design and botanical crafts at The Makery in State College, to instruct students on the art of creating succulent mini kokedama, or Japanese moss ball, crafts. The workshop also includes tips and resources for making other gifts on a budget, as well as snacks. The event is free and open to all students with no registration necessary.

The workshop is part of a larger initiative titled The Informed Consumer that is designed to help students make educated decisions as they transition into their professional life with topics such as financial education, information literacy, health literacy, and entrepreneurship. Librarians and student interns have collaborated to provide open education resources through Penn State Libraries to assist students in a variety of essential topics not taught in the classroom but invaluable now and post-graduation. The initiative also includes a blog that students may find helpful.
