Behrend runners place 2nd at AMCC championships

ERIE, Pa. — The cross-country teams at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, placed second at the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championships. Zachary Tingley led the men with a fourth-place overall finish; Riley Crissman finished third overall in the women’s field.

The college’s soccer, volleyball, swimming and bowling teams also were in action last week. Here are the highlights:

Men’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 3, D’Youville 0

The Lions carry the No. 1 seed into the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference tournament. The team has outscored AMCC opponents 39-2 this season.

Women’s soccer

Penn State Behrend 7, D’Youville 0

Seven different players scored against D’Youville. The defense held the Spartans to just two shots on goal.

Women’s volleyball

Penn State Behrend 3, Pitt-Greensburg 1

Penn State Behrend 3, Thiel 0

The Lions hold the No. 1 seed for the AMCC tournament. Amanda Henry, a senior from Bridgeville, set the pace against Pitt-Greensburg, recording 12 kills, seven digs, three aces, two blocks and two assists.

Men’s cross-country

Second (of eight teams) at the AMCC championships, in Steubenville, Ohio.

Zachary Tingley, a freshman from Stoneboro, placed fourth overall, finishing in 27:16.61.

Women’s cross-country

Second (of eight teams) at the AMCC championships, in Steubenville, Ohio.

Riley Crissman, a junior from Bradford, placed third overall, finishing in 24:04.56.

Men’s swimming and diving

Westminster 160, Penn State Behrend 134

Chase Bietz, a freshman from Clearfield, won the 100 and 200 breaststroke races. He also swam in the 200 free relay, which the Lions won.

Women’s swimming and diving

Westminster 159, Penn State Behrend 113

Marcella Puglia, a freshman from Beaver Falls, won the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle, and the 200 individual medley. She also swam in the 200 free relay, which the Lions won.

Bowling

Sixth (of six teams) at the Medaille Tournament

The Lions won their first match of the season, edging Daemen College by a score of 816-813. Hali Hartley, a sophomore from Seven Fields, was named to the All-Tournament Team.
