Penn State Hillel, Chabad to hold candlelight vigil 7 p.m. Oct. 29 at Old Main

Penn State Hillel and Chabad of Penn State have issued a statement in the wake of the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh on Oct. 27. A candlelight vigil is set for 7 p.m. on Oct. 29 in front of Old Main.

---

We are heartbroken by the horrific attack that took place on our brothers and sisters in Pittsburgh. As they stood in prayer and celebrated a new life entering into our world, eleven lives were suddenly taken from us.

An attack on Jews anywhere is an attack on Jews everywhere. We grieve with the families who have lost loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those who are injured.

They were murdered by hatred.
They will be remembered with love.

Every Shabbat begins and ends with the lighting of a candle. Throughout the ages, Jews have responded to hardship and tragedy by filling the darkness with the light of goodness, kindness and love.

In this spirit, Chabad of Penn State and Penn State Hillel  will be holding a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29, in front of Old Main.

We will honor the memory of those who have passed by taking on another Mitzvah, increasing in acts of goodness and kindness, and trying to make our world a little brighter.

In the strength of our collective mitzvot, may we each find and share comfort and peace at this extraordinarily challenging time.

A website also has been created where students can pledge to do a good deed in memory of those who perished.
