Pilot, passenger suffer minor injuries in private plane accident

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A pilot and one passenger suffered minor injuries after a single-engine private airplane crashed about 12:33 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 24, on its approach to the University Park Airport (UNV).

Penn State University Police responded to the scene along with Bellefonte fire companies, airport fire and rescue crews, and the Pennsylvania State Police. Police located the pilot and passenger, the only two on board, and escorted them to emergency medical crews. The pilot and passenger were transported to Mount Nittany Medical Center for evaluation.

The accident has been reported to the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.

The plane went down in a wooded area behind Barns Lane that is owned by Penn State and located in Benner Township. The pilot was able to exit the wreckage and called 911 to self-report the accident.

The aircraft was traveling from New Hampshire to Texas and was planning to land at the University Park Airport for fuel.
