HARRISBURG, Pa. — Jonathan Lee, associate professor of criminal justice in Penn State Harrisburg’s School of Public Affairs, will present “Quantitative Approaches to Understanding Criminal Behavior” from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 31 in the Morrison Gallery (Library Room 101) on campus.
Criminological theories share a common notion that social environment accounts for a large portion of criminal events. Criminologists constantly try to identify significant factors associated with crimes by analyzing survey data or agency records. This presentation will describe some of the approaches taken by Lee to understand juvenile delinquency, as well as violent, property and drug crimes, using various statistical models. Lee asserts that if we can understand criminal behavior, we can predict and prevent crimes.
His research interests include criminology, geographic information systems, situational crime profiling, policy evaluation, and public and police relations.
