Holocaust scholar David Crowe to present on 'Oskar Schindler, Film and Fact'

Event is part of Penn State Harrisburg's Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies speaker series

HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Center for Holocaust and Jewish Studies at Penn State Harrisburg will host a lecture by prominent Holocaust scholar David Crowe, titled “Oskar Schindler, Film and Fact,” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in the Olmsted Building auditorium (room C231).

Crowe is a Presidential Fellow at Chapman University in Orange, California, and a Professor Emeritus of History and Law at Elon University in Elon, North Carolina. His publications have won numerous awards and appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Times Literary Supplement, Pravo, the Jerusalem Post and many other newspapers, magazines and journals.

Holocaust survivor and author Elie Wiesel told the New York Times that Crowe’s 2004 book, “Oskar Schindler: The Untold Account of His Life, Wartime Activities and the True Story Behind the List,” “made Schindler more human, and also more extraordinary.”

Crowe's most recent publication is “Stalin’s Soviet Justice: ‘Show Trials, War Crimes Trials, and Nuremberg.'” He is currently writing a book titled “Raphael Lemkin: The Life of a Visionary,” and conducting research for a biography of Pearl S. Buck.

Crowe has appeared to testify before the United States Congress’ Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe and the New York City Council’s Subcommittee on Immigration. He has also served as an expert witness in numerous court cases involving the Roma, Russians and other ethnic groups. His television and radio appearances include CNN International, BBC Radio, Fox News, Voice of America, and other international platforms.
