UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — In observation of Military Appreciation Week, the Penn State College of Nursing is collecting donations of items to be used for care packages that will be delivered to deployed service members through the State College-based organization A Soldier's Hands.

Items needed include:

  • hard candy
  • tissue paper
  • ribbon
  • handwritten letters and cards

Monetary donations also are being accepted. Checks should be made payable to "A Soldier's Hands." All donations can be dropped off at Rooms 203B, 216 or 304 of the Nursing Sciences Building before Oct. 31.

Since 2007, A Soldier's Hands has distributed more than 6,400 care packages containing skin-care products such as hand cream, lip balm and sunscreen, each with a personalized thank-you note. The organization's mission is to send a care package to every deployed service member, one unit at a time, with no soldier or sailor in the unit going unacknowledged.
