School named Big Ten's freshman of the week

ROSEMONT, Ill. – After leading the Nittany Lions in two events Friday afternoon, Penn State freshman Marie Schobel was named the Big Ten Women's Swimming & Diving Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

Schobel touched first in both the 100 and 200 backstrokes and led a winning effort in the 200 medley relay during the match up against George Washington last Friday at Penn State. She completed the 100 back in 56.33, a personal best for the freshman Nittany Lion, and  won the 200 back with a time of 2:01.32.

This is the first Big Ten honor for Schobel and the first time Penn State freshmen have earned back-to-back honors with Madison Murtagh claiming the award last week.
