Two top-ten finishes for Penn State at Olympic Trials

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Select members of the Penn State men's and women's fencing teams completed a four-day long U.S. Olympic Trials event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The women's epee team opened the weekend on Friday with senior Anastasia Kalonji as the lone Lion competitor. Kalonji finished the women's epee tournament by placing 36th in a very strong national field.

Women's saber started day two off for Penn State as sophomore Kelli Wozniak took 64th. The men's epee team finished off their two-day run on Sunday. Freshman Ryan Griffiths, in his first appearance for Penn State, finished in 60th place and senior Anton Piskovatskov became the first Nittany Lion to place in the top ten at the event with his ninth-place finish.

Senior Karol Metryka started Sunday off with another top ten finish for the Nittany Lions in the men's saber. Karol placed fifth with sophomore teammate Inti Farfan-Bayerl taking 32nd in a strong field. Former Nittany Lion national champion Andrew Mackiewicz also competed, placing15th. The event concluded on Sunday with the men's and women's foil. Isabella Zuzulo placed 53rd and Jade Rowland placed 57th. Sophomores Shane Iverson and Sebastiano Bicego represented the Nittany Lion men with their 15th and 33rd place finishes, respectively.
