UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Student Engagement Network will host the second annual Student Engagement Expo on Wednesday, Oct. 17, in the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus of Penn State. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are invited to celebrate student success and connect with others who are passionate about advancing engagement at Penn State.
Starting at 6 p.m., 15 or more students will showcase their posters in Art Alley — demonstrating both in-classroom and out-of-classroom learning. Between 6 and 7 p.m., there will be live performances from K-Pop Music and Dance (KPMD) and None of the Above (N.O.T.A.) in Gingher Lounge.
Check-in for the student lightning talks and keynote presentation begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. outside Freeman Auditorium. The first 100 students to check in will receive a free “find your why, start your journey” T-shirt (a valid Penn State ID is required to check in). Once check-in has begun, the Penn State Taiko Club, a group of students who practice Japanese-style drumming, will perform in the auditorium on stage.
Starting at 7 p.m., eight students will kick off the lightning round presentations — sharing their personal stories on “finding their why” as Penn State undergraduate students.
At 8 p.m., a special keynote presentation will be given by Charlie Shuman, an offensive lineman for the Penn State football team and founder of Big Helping Little, a nonprofit organization that helps children and their families battle rare diseases.
“The Student Engagement Expo offers students a chance to learn more about the breadth of opportunities and experiences that foster personal and professional growth. The students presenting at the Expo showcase a variety of unique learning experiences and educational journeys that inspire others to consider their own plans for engaged learning,” said Michael Zeman, director of the Student Engagement Network.
“Attendees will learn more about how engagement experiences, both in and outside the classroom, help students grow personally, academically, and professionally,” said Zeman.
