Dr. Joshua Kesterson to present major milestones in the study of cervical cancer

Lecture a part of Penn State Harrisburg Reads event on Oct. 15

HARRISBURG, Pa. — As part of this year’s Penn State Harrisburg Reads campaign lecture series, centered around Rebecca Skloot’s groundbreaking book, "The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks," the campus will welcome Dr. Joshua Kesterson to present a timeline of cervical cancer’s history from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 15, in the library Morrison Gallery on campus.

During the event, Kesterson will provide a timeline of major milestones in efforts to understand the pathophysiology of cervical cancer, efforts to prevent the disease, and current roadblocks in efforts to eradicate it, including a discussion of impactful historical and socio-economic factors.

Kesterson is a physician and assistant professor in Penn State Hershey Medical Center’s Division of Gynecologic Oncology. He received an MBA from Penn State in 2018. Kesterson specializes in treating gynecologic malignancies, complex pelvic surgery and minimally invasive surgery including robotic and laparoscopic surgery.

Penn State Harrisburg Reads, hosted by the Office of Student Affairs and Engagement, selects a book every year to lead an interdisciplinary effort to both educate and unite the campus. For additional information, visit this link.
