The practice of gerrymandering - manipulating the boundaries of political districts to favor a particular party, class, or race - is as old as the United States. With the midterm elections a few weeks away, Penn State Abington is hosting a timely discussion: Calculating the Vote: Mathematics and Gerrymandering.

Issues such as potential disenfranchisement of voters under the current system and how mathematics can inform the analysis of the situation will be discussed with a special focus on gerrymandering in Pennsylvania. Learn how mathematicians are literally helping reshape the political landscape to prevent redistricting abuse.
