UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Retired Navy Admiral Michael S. Rogers, former director of the National Security Agency (NSA) and commander of the U.S. Cyber Command, will speak at Penn State as a guest of the Center for Security Research and Education (CSRE) on Nov. 13.
Rogers’ talk, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 4:30 p.m. in the Sutliff Auditorium of the Lewis Katz Building on Penn State’s University Park campus. Guests are asked to register on the CSRE website in advance of the event.
Rogers assumed his duties as director of the NSA and commander, U.S. Cyber Command, in March 2014. In these roles, he participated in the most significant national security issues facing the nation. He retired in June after a 37-year career in the Navy in which he also served as commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command / U.S. 10th Fleet, and director for intelligence for both the Joint Chiefs of Staff and U.S. Pacific Command.
A native of Chicago, Rogers attended Auburn University, graduating in 1981, and he received his commission via the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps. After beginning his career as a surface warfare officer aboard the USS Caron, he was selected for re-designation to cryptology (now Information Warfare) in 1986. Rogers is a distinguished graduate and graduate of highest distinction from the National War College. He is also a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI fellow; Harvard Senior Executive in National Security alum; and holds a master of science in national security strategy.
