UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Applications are now open for the Parents Council at University Park, which serves as a resource for parents and families.

The council is comprised of a representative group of University Park parents and family members who make a commitment to volunteer their time and to share their knowledge and expertise across a range of initiatives and programs that support the mission and the goals of the Penn State Parents Program and the University as a whole. The council acts as an advisory group working in close collaboration with the Parents Program to help undergraduate parents, families and students foster a positive and lasting connection to Penn State.

“I think that my involvement with Parents Council conveys to my son that I am deeply interested in him and his college experience — which I certainly am,” said Ed Mazurek, Parents Council chair. “I do feel more connected with him. As for the council itself, I greatly look forward to our meetings in the fall and spring because the Parents Council has such genuinely wonderful people on it. It has been a tremendous experience just getting to know other Penn State families, all of whom have a common interest — our students.”

Parents Council members are asked to attend two meetings a year at the University Park campus and support the Parents Program by welcoming families to the University, sharing their Penn State experience, and developing ways to connect with families. Council members volunteer for special programs, arrival events, and Parents and Families Weekend. Applications are being accepted through Nov. 30, 2018.

Applications for Parents Ambassadors will be available in January. Parent Ambassadors at University Park support the work of the Penn State Parents Council and Parents Program. Parent Ambassadors serve as volunteer representatives for a number of university events and programs for new and continuing students, parents and families.
