Penn State resources assist sexual assault and misconduct victims

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Given recent national conversations happening around the topics of sexual assault and misconduct, Penn State leaders want to reaffirm the University’s commitment to eliminating sexual assault and misconduct, and all forms of harassment, on campus. They also wish to again share information about the resources and services available to students, faculty and staff members.

For those in the Penn State community who have been impacted by sexual or gender-based harassment or misconduct, the University provides a broad array of resources to meet individuals’ varying needs, including:

  • Confidential survivor advocacy and support services
  • Free psychological counseling and psychological support
  • Free or low-cost healthcare options
  • Academic accommodations
  • Housing and/or employment modifications
  • Referrals to local community agencies for additional services

In addition, as part of the University’s efforts to create a campus environment focused on safety, reporting and accountability, in 2015, Penn State President Eric Barron implemented 18 recommendations aimed at fighting sexual assault and misconduct on all Penn State campuses. Recent actions include establishing a bystander intervention program, called Stand for State, and providing additional resources for Title IX and affirmative action efforts, among others.

The University encourages individuals who have been victims of sexual or gender-based harassment or misconduct to make a confidential report by contacting the University’s Title IX Coordinator or the Office of Sexual Misconduct Prevention and Response. Community members may also choose to make a report with law enforcement. In the event of an emergency, seek immediate assistance by calling 911.

Listed below are resources — including centers, medical services, counseling services, advocacy services, and police and safety services — available to Penn State community members.
