Penn State, West Virginia to meet in hurricane relief exhibition game

September 26, 2018

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State men’s basketball will travel to West Virginia as the two teams will play an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the WVU Coliseum. All proceeds from the game will benefit American Red Cross hurricane relief efforts.

Additional information on how to purchase tickets, tipoff time and broadcast designation will be announced closer to the date of the game.

Both teams were originally scheduled to play exhibition games against other opponents on the same day, with the Nittany Lions canceling their Nov. 3 exhibition game vs. Nyack College in the Bryce Jordan Center.

“Through this exhibition game with West Virginia, our team has an opportunity to help and support those who have felt the devastating effects of Hurricane Florence and its aftermath,” said Penn State men’s basketball coach Patrick Chambers.

Meeting at least once each year from 1936 to 1991 as regional foes and conference opponents, Penn State and West Virginia have not played since January 1991, when the Nittany Lions won in Morgantown 66-63.

Penn State plays host to two games in the Bryce Jordan Center the opening weekend of the 2018-19 season, against North Florida on Friday, Nov. 9 (7:30 p.m.), and on Monday, Nov. 12, vs. Jacksonville State (7 p.m). Both of those games are part of the U.S. regional of the Cancun Challenge.

The 2018 National Invitation Tournament championship banner will be unveiled during festivities prior to the game on Nov. 9.

Fifteen home games are on the slate for 2018-19, including, for the first time, 10 Big Ten Conference opponents in the Jordan Center as part of the league’s new 20-conference game format.
