PSU Votes Week encourages students to register to vote

Voter registration events planned for week of Sept. 24

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Election season is upon us and, as always, it is crucial that every student who has the ability to vote does so. In conjunction with the University Park Undergraduate Association’s (UPUA) PSU Votes week, Sept. 24-28, Penn State encourages all students to be engaged citizens by participating in the midterm elections in November and understanding the issues.

Students at Penn State can register and vote at either their local or permanent address. Students are reminded they need to register to vote by Oct. 9 in order to vote in this year’s Pennsylvania midterm elections. For students looking to vote out of state, registration and voting information links can be found at the PSU Votes webpage under the make an informed decision tab.

Several voter registration events will be held throughout campus leading up to the Oct. 9 deadline. A few of the events to be held this week are listed below.

  • Sept. 25, 11 a.m., HUB-Robeson Center, voter registration table hosted by the Gender Equity Center.
  • Thursday, Sept. 27, 11 a.m. –to 3 p.m., HUB lawn, voter registration event hosted by UPUA.
  • Thursday, Sept. 27, 6 to 7 p.m., 129B HUB-Robeson Center, Gerrymandering Panel Discussion hosted by the Graduate and Professional Student Association (GPSA).

In addition to these specific events, look for voter registration tables staffed by UPUA, the College Democrats, College Republicans, GPSA, Council of Commonwealth Student Governments, and NAACP throughout the week.

Liza Buschinski, UPUA director of communications, said the organization is hosting these events in hopes of spreading the word about voter registration and to better engage with students in the voting process.

“We want to make sure that students are aware of their civic duties as citizens,” Buschinski said.

The goal of PSU Votes Week is to help students learn about the current candidates and issues and to assist students in registering to vote. Students who are unable to register in person this week can also register online by Oct. 9. To register to vote in Pennsylvania, students can visit the registration website.

To learn more about how and where to vote, your rights as a voter, and other voting information, students can visit the PSU Votes page on Penn State’s Student Affairs website for more.
