Pilot grants available from Clinical and Translational Science Institute

Networking workshop to be held Oct. 17

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — As part of its mission to accelerate discoveries to benefit human health, the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute will award up to $300,000 in funding for pilot projects through its Bridges to Translation V pilot grant program. 

A request for application workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 110 Henderson, University Park campus. Lunch will be provided and will be an opportunity for networking to promote collaboration. Registration is required by Oct. 3 at bit.ly/BridgesV. Transportation will be available from Hershey to University Park with registration.

The long-range goal of the Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute is to develop, implement and make available to the community at large new methods to promote health and predict, prevent and effectively treat human disease. Funded projects will help build collaborations and work to overcome roadblocks to taking research in the laboratories to patients in healthcare clinics. The institute will give special consideration for projects that relate to rural and other vulnerable populations who experience health disparities, specifically projects that explore:

  • Social, environmental and phenomic determinants.
  • Study of or interventions focused on those diseases identified by Case and Deaton.
  • New methodologies including telemedicine, community-engaged research, big data modeling in research of the determinants of health.
  • Population health and patient-centered outcome research. 

Letters of intent are due by Dec. 1.
