UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The Penn State Horticulture Research Farm will hold an apple sale starting at 9 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, at a booth on the sidewalk next to the Berkey Creamery on the University Park campus.

A selection of early-season apples will be available. This year's sale will include varieties such as Honeycrisp, Gala, McIntosh, Daybreak Fuji, Jonamac and a limited quantity of Asian Pear. Credit cards, cash and checks will be accepted at the event.

The apples are from a 14-acre orchard at the Department of Plant Science's Horticulture Research Farm, which was founded in the 1960s and is part of the Russell E. Larson Agricultural Research Center, located 9 miles southwest of State College next to the Ag Progress Days site. The orchard conducts root stock and variety studies resulting in more than 120 different varieties of apples on site.
