College of Arts & Architecture hosts Women of Color in Art and Design Symposium

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Seven Penn State alumni working in the arts, design and communications fields will participate in the Women of Color in Art and Design Symposium from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, at the Palmer Lipcon Auditorium, Palmer Museum of Art. Sponsored by the College of Arts and Architecture and moderated by Kikora Franklin, associate professor of theatre, the symposium will feature a panel discussion where participants talk about career goals and the challenges of working as women of color in their respective fields.

Participants include Quiana (Kiki) Dickson (2018, bachelor of landscape architecture), currently working at the planning and design firm Sasaki Associates in Watertown, Massachusetts; D’Nae Harrison (2014, bachelor of fine arts, visual arts), award-winning interdisciplinary artist; Adorée Johnson (2002, bachelor of arts, sociology; 2004 bachelor of arts, African and African American studies), musician and professional dancer, focusing on African dance; Adrianna Matthews (2012 bachelor of arts, theatre), who also holds a master of fine arts in drama and theatre for youth and communities and certification in disability studies from the University of Texas at Austin; Maria (Mále) Reguero, (2018, bachelor of design, graphic design), junior designer for Rent the Runway; Melanie Ray, AIA (2015, bachelor of architecture), currently working in the housing/mixed-used studio of Hord Coplan Macht in Baltimore; and Amanda Romero (2012, bachelor of arts, journalism), freelance videographer.
