Pedestrian island project to impact Park Avenue traffic starting Sept. 10

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Travel restrictions will be in place starting Monday, Sept. 10, on East Park Avenue when crews begin installation of a new pedestrian island near the intersection with McKee Street.

Work crews will be conducting work between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. on weekdays, resulting in two traffic changes:

— At the Park Avenue and McKee Street intersection, one travel lane will be closed during work hours and flaggers will be at both ends of the work zone to direct traffic. Sidewalks on each side of the street in this section also will be closed during scheduled work hours.

— McKee Street, between Park Avenue and Lehman Way, will be used for equipment staging and that section of the road will be closed to vehicle traffic for the duration of the project. However, the area will be open to pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The project is expected to be completed by the end of October, according to State College Borough.
