Moshin Hamid to speak at Penn State Altoona

Author Mohsin Hamid will speak on campus at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, in the Adler Athletic Complex as part of Penn State Altoona's Distinguished Speaker Series.

Hamid will offer a lecture and book reading, then open the floor for questions. A book signing will follow. Attendees are encouraged to submit questions ahead of time.

Hamid was born in 1971 in Lahore, Pakistan. He grew up there and in California and attended Princeton University and Harvard Law School. He then worked in New York and London as a management consultant before returning to Lahore to pursue writing full time.

He has written four novels including "Moth Smoke," "The Reluctant Fundamentalist," "How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia," and "Exit West," Penn State Altoona’s Common Read book for 2018-19 academic year.

Hamid writes regularly for The New York Times, The Guardian, and The New York Review of Books. He has lectured at dozens of universities around the world, from Stanford and Yale to the London School of Economics and the National University of Singapore. In 2013, Foreign Policy magazine named him one of the world's 100 Leading Global Thinkers.

Free tickets are available at the Penn State Altoona Bookstore, the box office of the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts, or at the door the night of the event. Tickets can also be reserved online. The Distinguished Speaker Series is sponsored by the Student Activity Fee.
