UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Supporters of WPSU-FM and WPSU-TV can now set up automatic monthly donations to benefit their local public media station.

Sustaining membership is now available for the first time for as low as $5 per month. WPSU supporters can make automatic monthly gifts through a bank account or credit or debit card, and memberships automatically renew each year. Supporters can become a sustaining member by visiting the WPSU website or calling 1-800-245-9779 to support WPSU-TV and 877-420-9778 for WPSU-FM.

“Our supporters are the station’s foundation,” said Isabel Reinert, interim executive director and general manager for WPSU Penn State. “Their membership makes it possible for WPSU to provide quality television and radio programming throughout central Pennsylvania.”

A sustaining membership also includes access to WPSU Passport, which gives members on-demand access to PBS shows and programming. The money collected from memberships and donations goes toward purchasing programming from PBS and NPR, and the production of local content.

“Our goal is to build a reliable and consistent source of support that allows us to create sustainable funding for our programming,” said Jeff Hughes, director of programming services for WPSU. “Sustaining membership may also allow us to reduce costs and decrease the need for on-air pledge drives, so our supporters can enjoy more of the station’s programming and productions.”

Sustaining members will have the option to support either WPSU-TV or WPSU-FM when setting up an account. Listeners and viewers who are interested in supporting both WPSU-TV and WPSU-FM will have to set up two recurring donations.

WPSU-TV serves 24 counties in central Pennsylvania and reaches 515,000 households, and WPSU-FM is accessible to more than 450,000 listeners in 13 counties. The public media station also includes WPSU Digital Studios, which offers original web series that explore science, arts and culture.

Visit the WPSU website for more information and to become a member.
