ERIE, Pa. — Penn State Behrend is celebrating a big birthday this year, and everyone with ties to the college is invited to the party.
Parents, Families & Alumni Weekend will be held Sept. 21-23 at Penn State Behrend. A celebration of the college’s past, present and future, the weekend will offer a number of activities that are ideal for both alumni as well as current students and their families. The weekend coincides with the start of the college’s 70th anniversary.
“Parents & Families Weekend has long been a staple of the college’s fall programming, but in recent years, we’ve heard from alumni, who have hoped for a ‘homecoming’ type of event,” said Ralph Ford, chancellor of the college. “Fall is such a beautiful time at Behrend, and it provides the perfect backdrop for expanding the weekend, inviting all members of the Behrend community to come together and celebrate the college.”

For the Penn State football faithful, there will be a special watch party. Trivia buffs can test their knowledge during a special competition at nearby Erie Brewing Co. There will even be a live stage show by mentalist and illusionist Brian Ledbetter.
Young people will feel right at home during the weekend. A family carnival will include games of chance, inflatables and crafts, while horse-drawn trolley tours will offer guests unique views of campus.
Former students involved in the Multi-Cultural Council, the Behrend Beacon college newspaper, and Learning Resource Center tutoring will hold reunions during the weekend. Guided tours of Glenhill Farmhouse, the former home of the Behrend family, also will be offered.
“From a programming perspective, we really think there’s something for everyone,” said Ken Miller, senior director of administration and student affairs. “Almost every activity will be free, so guests can create their own itinerary and enjoy the weekend as they please.”
