State College Borough announces traffic changes for student move-in

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — State College Borough has announced traffic changes to help with the safe and efficient movement of traffic during student move-in for the upcoming fall semester. 

Starting Friday, Aug. 17, the following traffic changes will be in effect:

— 400 block of West College Avenue: The left-hand lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, and Saturday, Aug. 18. This closure is for students to unload.

— 600 block of East College Avenue: The right-hand lane will be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 17, and Saturday, Aug. 18. This closure is for students to unload.

— East Calder Way between South Garner Street to Hetzel Street will be made one-way for westbound traffic, Friday through Sunday, Aug. 17-19.

The borough also is not enforcing its "No Parking: 2 a.m. to 6 a.m." and one- and two-hour parking restrictions from now until 6 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 20. Lawn parking will not be permitted. More information on State College parking restrictions is available at statecollegepa.us.

The State College Police Department is asking motorists to be aware and drive safely due to the traffic congestion and increased number of pedestrians.

South Allen Street closed from College Avenue to Beaver Avenue until Aug. 14

State College Borough's Public Works Department has closed the 100 block of South Allen Street between College Avenue and Beaver Avenue for a milling and paving project. The roadway is scheduled to re-open when paving is completed on Tuesday, Aug. 14. This schedule is weather dependent and subject to change. Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling around the work area.

All businesses in the 100 block of South Allen Street will keep their regular hours throughout the project.

Travel restriction on East Beaver Avenue between South Allen Street and Hiester Street

M and B Services will be replacing streetlights and sidewalk curb ramps on East Beaver Avenue between South Allen Street and Hiester Street starting Monday, Aug. 13. Crews will be closing one lane of travel between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Motorists are advised to use caution when traveling through the work area.
