WorkLion update enhances communication between employee, HR

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Based on faculty and staff feedback, Penn State Human Resources (HR) has added a new feature to the WorkLion Portal. As of Monday, July 2, faculty and staff have the ability to respond to the answers provided to their inquiries in WorkLion.

In the previous state, when an HR services team member answers an inquiry, the case was then closed. If the individual had further questions related to the initial inquiry, the individual would've had to submit a new inquiry, which may or may not be answered by the same HR services team member.

Now, when an HR services team member provides an answer to the initial inquiry, it will now move to a “Pending Closure” status. Faculty and staff are then be asked whether the response answered their inquiry or if they need further clarification. Once an inquiry is pending closure, the employee has five days to ask for additional information or resolve the inquiry. If no action is taken within those five days, the inquiry will automatically resolve.

This new enhancement has enabled better two-way communication between Penn State faculty and staff and HR. In addition, it has eliminated multiple inquiries related to the same question.

A video tutorial, "WorkLion Inquiries: 'Pending Closure' Enhancement," is available via the Learning Resource Network (LRN). This video will is available on-demand, so faculty and staff may view it at their convenience.
