Penn State Health puts pedal to metal in United Way trike race

Team takes home Wackiest Costumes trophy

HERSHEY, Pa. — The Penn State Health team put in a united effort for the United Way at the 22nd annual Capital Region trike race on July 20 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

The team placed 10th in a field of 22 teams of companies and organizations. First National Bank took first place, while Capital BlueCross came in a close second.

The caped Penn State Health team and their loyal lion mascot took home one coveted trophy at the lighthearted outing — for “Wackiest Costumes.”

The Penn State Health riders were Abigail Rudy, vice president, Nursing; William Neide, supervisor, Special Hematology Lab; Steven Furmanski, manager, Facilities, Buildings and Grounds; Emily Kreider, IT educator, Clinical Information Systems, and Lisa Olenski, vice president, Operational Excellence. Approximately 15 employees served as the cheering section for the event, which kicked off the United Way 2018 campaign.

Penn State Health also was a sponsor of the trike race. Dr. Craig Hillemeier, dean, Penn State College of Medicine; CEO, Penn State Health; and senior vice president for health affairs, Penn State, is the chair of this year’s United Way campaign, which officially launches on Sept. 7.
