University prepares to celebrate 100 years of women officially serving in the U.S. Armed Forces

A number of women were among the U.S. military personnel who watched comedian Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central's "The Colbert Report" during his performance in Baghdad. Penn State Today would like spotlight women in the military by publishing a photo gallery of women serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard. This year’s Military Appreciation Week at Penn State will celebrate the 100 years of women officially serving in the U.S. Armed Forces with a Penn State Football Game on Oct. 27 leading up to Veterans Day on Nov. 11.

Penn State Today would like to join in this celebration by spotlighting women in the military with a photo gallery.

Send us photos of female Penn Staters, who have served or are currently serving in the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force or Coast Guard. Our editors will select about 12 images to represent the theme of women serving our country through military service. Preference will be given photos in a military setting.

Include the following information:

  • Name of military member
  • Military rank
  • Branch of service
  • Penn State connection (ie: 2001 graduate in electrical engineering)
  • Short description of the photo
  • Photographer’s name  and email address

The photo gallery will be featured in a future edition of Penn State Today and on Penn State’s social media platforms.

Submission guidelines are available here. Photographers of all skill levels are invited to participate. No need for a fancy camera — the cellphone in your pocket will do the job. Be sure to read our submission guidelines, and happy photographing!

Submission deadline: 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31. Selected submissions will appear in a September edition of Penn State Today.

— Send your photo by email to: news@psu.edu. Use the subject line “women in the military.”
