HERSHEY, Pa. — Dr. Ronald Miller, a nephrologist at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, is the July winner of Penn State College of Medicine’s “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” program.
Miller previously received the Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2017. He also won the Distinguished Physician Award for Excellence in house staff teaching and the Education Recognition Award from the Department of Medicine. In addition, he received the Teacher of the Year Award by student vote in 2016.
“Dr. Miller is incredibly receptive to student feedback,” wrote a current student on the nomination. “He encouraged us to take what we learned about physiology and apply that knowledge to new clinical applications.”
Miller also ensures that his students have a healthy work-life balance.
“I hope that someday I will teach with the same passion and kindness that Dr. Miller shows,” the student wrote.
The College of Medicine’s Office for a Respectful Learning Environment honors exceptional faculty members with the monthly “Exceptional Moments in Teaching” award program. College of Medicine students are invited to nominate a faculty member, resident, nurse or other educator who challenges them and provides an exceptional learning experience.
The Office for a Respectful Learning Environment fosters an educational community at the College of Medicine in which all learners and educators feel supported, challenged, valued and respected. It serves all learners at the College of Medicine: medical students, graduate students, physician assistant students, residents and fellows.
