Penn State Hazleton appoints coordinator of student engagement

HAZLETON, Pa. — Robert Knight Jr. has been named coordinator of student engagement at Penn State Hazleton, Chancellor Gary Lawler announced.

In his role at the campus, Knight will oversee student programming, including the planning, development and implementation of a variety of initiatives for students. He will work with various student groups, including clubs and organizations, on co-curricular activities, community service opportunities and leadership initiatives.

“Penn State Hazleton places a high priority on the student experience both inside and outside the classroom for our diverse student population. We look forward to seeing the initiatives that Rob introduces and continues at the campus,” Lawler said.

As coordinator of student engagement, Knight will develop and present trainings, workshops and informational programs for students and student organizations. He also will assist with orientation and welcome weekend programming, along with special projects and activities at the campus residence halls.

“We want to see our students connected and involved with their peers and with the community,” said Tracy Garnick, director of student services and engagement. “Rob’s experience in working with students and commitment to developing future leaders will greatly benefit our campus and our students.”

Knight holds a master of science degree in higher education administration from Marywood University and a bachelor of science degree in liberal studies from the University of Scranton. He is pursuing a master of business administration degree from the University of Scranton. He is a graduate of the Core and Executive Leadership Lackawanna programs.

His career has included several leadership positions in higher education. Most recently, Knight worked as director of academic advising for the University of Scranton’s College of Arts and Sciences, where he oversaw all aspects of academic advising. He was promoted to that position from positions as academic adviser and assistant director of academic advising. He also served as assistant director of residence life at King’s College.
