Penn State Hazleton appoints allied health coordinator

Amanda Gallagher has been hired as the allied health program coordinator at Penn State Hazleton, Chancellor Gary Lawler announced.

Gallagher will oversee Penn State Hazleton’s allied health programs, which include a nurse aide program and a clinical medical assisting program. The nurse aide program is new at Penn State Hazleton with its first class beginning in August.

She will manage the clinical medical assisting program, with the next cohort of students beginning in September. She will also introduce new allied health care opportunities to the campus with phlebotomy and EKG (electrocardiogram) technician programs being offered beginning in spring 2019.

Gallagher will be responsible for cultivating, developing and maintaining relationships with community organizations and affiliate sites as part of the health programs at Penn State Hazleton.

“Amanda’s experience with nursing and health care in a variety of settings will be a real asset to our students in the practical nursing and allied health programs at Penn State Hazleton. She has been a valued part of our staff as an instructor in our practical nursing program and we look forward to seeing the continued growth of our programs under her leadership,” said Director of Continuing Education Debra Conway.

Gallagher is a registered nurse and also holds certifications in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), nurse management and teaching the educator. She holds a master of science in nursing degree in nursing education from Capella University, a bachelor of science degree in nursing from Penn State and an associate’s degree in nursing from Lehigh Carbon Community College.

She has spent the last two years as practical nursing classroom and clinical instructor at Penn State Hazleton, where she has developed educational materials and lesson plans and taught students, including hands-on instruction in a laboratory setting.

Previously, Gallagher worked as a practical nursing clinical and classroom instructor at Schuylkill Technology Centers. Her prior nursing experience also includes roles as a registered nurse supervisor at several personal care home and as assistant director of medical-surgical nursing and intensive care and clinical educator for Blue Mountain Health Systems.
