AUSTIN, Texas -- Men’s gymnastics redshirt-junior Noah Roberson was named to the 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large First Team, recognizing the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Roberson becomes the fourth men’s gymnast in Penn State history to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors and the first since 2012. He joins Miguel Pineda, the program’s only two-time honoree, 2011 and 2012, as well as Jose Palacios, 2001, and Joe Roemer, 1995.
Following his third season donning the blue and white, Roberson carries a 4.0-grade point average as a double major in biomedical engineering and mechanical engineering. The Williamsville, New York, native is a two-time Elite 90 Award winner, earning the honor in both 2017 and 2018, a 2016 Elite 90 Award Finalist, a three-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree, a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and earned First Team CGA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors in 2016 and 2017.
This past season, Roberson competed in nine meets for the Nittany Lions on the still rings, winning the event three times in the 2018 campaign. Roberson picked up the individual event victory at Iowa with a 14.350, while winning against Nebraska with a 14.400. He qualified for the individual event finals at the Big Ten Championships, finishing seventh overall. Finally, Roberson finished ninth at the NCAA Championships on the still rings.
Penn State has had 201 CoSIDA Academic All-Americans all-time, which ranks fourth among all Division I institutions. Roberson joins Haleigh Washington, women’s volleyball, and Emily Ogle, women’s soccer, who were honored last fall with Washington earning the honor for the third time.
