PA State Council of Lions Clubs and Four Diamonds have announced a new multi-year partnership, PA Lions “Care – For The Kids,” which is mobilizing the PA Lions’ 19,000 member network to raise $100,000 in its first year to benefit Four Diamonds’ mission to conquer childhood cancer.
The partnership is the first of its kind nationally between Lions Clubs and Four Diamonds. PA Lions Clubs are taking the lead in launching this new initiative, creating a model for others to follow. This is the initial implementation of a new international focus on pediatric cancer that will be introduced to Lions Clubs across the world at the 101st Lions Clubs International Convention from June 28 to July 3 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“Lions Clubs International is beginning its global campaign to raise awareness for pediatric cancer and to express support for children and adolescents with cancer, survivors and their families. We, as Pennsylvania Lions, are proud and honored to enter this partnership with Four Diamonds to promote an increased appreciation and a deeper understanding of the challenges relevant to this disease and to spotlight the need for more equitable and accessible treatment and care for all children with cancer,” said Thomas Gregg, MD-14 global service team coordinator, PA State Council of Lions Clubs. “We -- the Lions, Lioness and Leos of Pennsylvania -- look forward to working with Four Diamonds to serve those children and their families in a time of great need and thank Four Diamonds for allowing us to partner with them.”
As childhood cancer kills more children in the United States than any other disease, PA Lions Clubs are committed to providing ongoing support to Four Diamonds.
“We’re thrilled to have PA Lions Clubs join as a partner in the fight to conquer childhood cancer,” said Dr. Barbara Miller, chief of pediatric hematology/oncology at Penn State Children’s Hospital and director of Four Diamonds Pediatric Cancer Research Center. “Their commitment will help us to continue to serve the Four Diamonds children who are currently fighting cancer at Penn State Children’s Hospital and also to propel our exciting research, which has the potential to help children worldwide.”
