Penn State alumnus joins College of IST as director of development

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — A Penn State alumnus with more than a decade of experience in University fundraising and stewardship has joined the College of Information Sciences and Technology as director of development.

Mike Weyandt, former director of major gifts for the Eberly College of Science and associate director of development at the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications, earned his bachelor’s degree from Penn State’s College of Health and Human Development. He began his new role on June 11.

As IST’s director of development, Weyandt will work with the college’s alumni and friends to increase financial resources that allow the college to recruit and retain top students and faculty, as well as to promote alumni engagement.

“IST is one of the youngest colleges on the University Park campus, and its alumni are just now entering a phase of life, professionally and personally, that will allow them to become more engaged as volunteers and supporters,” he said. “I am excited to be on the front end of that growth.”

“We are excited to have someone with Mike’s experience and record of success leading the development and alumni relations efforts for the college,” said Andrew Sears, dean of the College of IST. “I look forward to working with him to foster engagement with and support of the college from alumni, friends and supporters, especially as we approach IST’s 20th anniversary in 2019.”
