DUNMORE, Pa. — Asif ud-Doula, associate professor of physics at Penn State Scranton, is the 2018 University College Faculty Scholar Award recipient.

The award includes $1,000 that may be used for supplemental salary or programmatic support, and ud-Doula will be invited to serve on the University College Scholar Award Review Committee for the next three years, followed by two additional years as an alternate.

In the letter ud-Doula received notifying him of his award, the committee wrote: “This is an exceptional achievement, as you are among a select group of University College faculty who will receive this award. Your research, scholarship, and/or creative contributions to your campus, the University College, the University, as well as your discipline exemplify the level of excellence that is honored by this award.

“Although the Committee had a difficult task of evaluating and providing recommendations amongst the outstanding candidates, your pioneering and prolific work in computational astrophysics, as well as the breadth of projects in which you have involved undergraduate researchers, illustrate your extraordinary contributions to the scholarly mission of our College.”

Ud-Doula was chosen by a University review committee that consisted of Byron R. Parizek, chair of the University College Scholar Award Committee and associate professor of mathematics and geosciences at Penn State DuBois; Lynda Goldstein, associate professor of English and women's studies at Penn State Wilkes-Barre; Lori Hepner, associate professor of integrative arts at Penn State Greater Allegheny; Donald Liddick, associate professor of administration of justice, administrative justice, social sciences and education at Penn State Fayette; and David Macauley, associate professor of philosophy and environmental studies at Penn State Brandywine.
