Video highlighting Penn College NOW dual enrollment program captures Telly Award

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — A video promoting a program in which high school students earn college credit garnered honors for Pennsylvania College of Technology in the 39th annual Telly Awards competition, representing the best work from advertising agencies, television stations, production companies and publishers worldwide.

A Bronze Telly in the “Non-Broadcast – General-Information” category went to a news video titled “High Schoolers Earn Free College Credits with Penn College NOW,” which showcased the Penn College NOW dual enrollment program.

The four-minute video was produced and edited by Thomas F. Speicher, writer/video editor at the college. It encapsulates the college’s nationally accredited, dual enrollment program, which allows high school students to earn free college credits. Featured are Central Mountain High School and Williamsport Area High School teachers and students, who share their experiences participating in Penn College NOW.

The Penn College perspective is provided by Monica A. McCarty, dual enrollment specialist, and Sapphire E. Naugle, a plastics and polymer engineering technology major who earned 18 college credits through Penn College NOW while a student at Jersey Shore Area Senior High School.

“This is an appropriate recognition of Tom’s talents as a storyteller and visual journalist,” said Patrick Marty, vice president for college relations. “The work is visually appealing, compelling and informative, and it differentiates and reinforces the high value of the Penn College NOW program for some 1,300 students in nearly 50 Pennsylvania high schools.”

Among the other Bronze Telly honorees in the same Non-Broadcast – General-Information category were: Comcast, CBS Interactive, the University of Chicago and Johns Hopkins Medicine.

The Telly Awards showcase the best work created within television and across video, for all screens. For the 2018 Telly Awards, there were 12,000 entries submitted from all 50 states and five continents.
