WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Fourteen of this fall’s first-year students in construction and design majors at Pennsylvania College of Technology have been selected as Built Environment Scholars in a program that rewards academic talent in science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related fields.
Scholarship funding up to an annual $10,000 per student is awarded through a $1 million National Science Foundation grant that aims to increase retention, graduation and career readiness for students in six of Penn College’s STEM-focused pursuits.
The 2018-19 BE Scholars are:
Architectural technology —Megan A. Bugbee, of Geneseo, New York; Leonard K. Griswell, of Lancaster; and Brian G. Talley, of Lake Ariel.
Building construction technology — Pat K. Bolan, of Roseland, New Jersey; Brandon T. Hostetlar, of Austin; and Matthew D. Yoder, of Nescopeck.
Civil engineering technology — Daniel I. Boone, of Loganton.
Heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology — Caleb R. Diltz, of Shickshinny; Joseph V. Gullace, of Livingston, New Jersey; Alex A. Klose, of Bethlehem; Kevin W. Kruk, of Scranton; and Devan C. Valentine, of Tamaqua.
Surveying technology — Tyler N. Reidy, of Montoursville; and Bret A. Yetter, of Liverpool.
“The opportunity to engage students early on in career-oriented activities is paramount to their long-term success and development as productive professionals,” said Naim N. Jabbour, principal investigator for the NSF grant and interim assistant dean of construction and design technologies. “The candidates selected for this upcoming fall exemplify the essence and spirit of academic scholarship and excellence. We look forward to welcoming these students to the BE Scholars program.”
Eligible students are pursuing associate-degree majors in architectural technology; building construction technology; civil engineering technology; concrete science technology; heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology; and surveying technology.
