WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Seven Pennsylvania College of Technology students were recently designated by the college’s Construction Management Advisory Committee to receive scholarship awards.
Presented with $1,500 each in Construction Management Endowed Scholarships were Lauren S. Herr, of Lititz; Calen B. Heeter, of Emlenton; and Derek S. Smith, of Port Matilda.
Construction Management Advisory Scholarships of $1,000 apiece were presented to Nowell H. Covington, of Benton, and Elias S. Brallier, of Hopewell. Jacob R. Stouffer, of Chambersburg, received the $500 Emerging Freshman Scholarship.
Derick S. Gower, of Sunbury, was selected as this year’s winner of a $1,000 Whiting-Turner Scholarship. In addition to establishing a scholarship fund at the college, the Baltimore-based contracting firm is a fixture at campus career fairs and has been recognized by the Alumni Relations Office for its mentoring and hiring of Penn College graduates.
“The diversified educational platform of the Penn College Construction Management program focuses not only on the technical aspects of the construction industry, but also on the managerial and soft skills required to advance their careers,” said Stephanie L. Schmidt, vice chair of the advisory committee and president of Poole Anderson Construction. “Upon graduation, the BCM students are well-prepared to become future leaders in our industry. These individuals distinguished themselves both in and out of the classroom.”
Advisory committees comprise industry professionals who offer advice on curriculum and equipment, as well as sharing business connections and internship opportunities.
