University Park, Pa.- Penn State women’s golfer junior Cara Basso (Downingtown, Pa.) has been selected to compete in the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf Regionals, as announced by the NCAA women’s golf committee this evening.

Basso marks the first Nittany Lion to advance onto the regionals since 2014 when then senior Christina Vosters (Bethany Beach, Del.) and junior Ellen Ceresko (Jefferson Township, Pa.) participated in the NCAA East Regional in Tallahassee, Florida.

“We are extremely proud of Cara and all she has accomplished,” stated Head Coach Denise St. Pierre, “She had a great last event at the Big Ten Championship and has had an overall great year.”

Basso is set to compete in the Madison Regional, hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Madison, May 7-9 at the University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin. Basso is one of 24 individuals selected to compete across the four regionals.

The Penn State junior is coming off a big finish at the Big Ten Championship this past weekend where she tied for fourth finishing the three-round tournament four-under 212. Basso tied for the lowest round of the day during round two of play shooting 67 (-5). All in all, she has had five top ten and three top five finishes in the 10 tournaments played this season.

“This is an incredible and well-deserved honor for Cara and she will represent Penn State well,” commented St. Pierre.

Out of the 384 total participants, 6 teams and 3 individuals from each regional will advance totaling 132 advancing participants. The National Championship will take play May 18-23 at the Karsten Creek Golf Club in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
